# Delete your account and data

You can delete your Memoir account, and everything in it, yourself, in the app, at any time. It works the same way on iPhone, iPad and Android.

## Delete your account in the app

- Open Memoir and go to Settings → Account.

- Tap Delete Account (it's the red row at the bottom).

- If other people are in a shared space you made, you'll be asked what should happen to it first.

- Confirm. The account is deleted straight away and the app signs you out.

Want a copy first? Save everything you've kept as a backup file from **Settings → Backup & Sync** before you delete.

## What is deleted

Deleting your account erases, from our live systems, your account, your encrypted memories, photos, videos and voice notes, your reminders, the devices you were signed in on, your sharing profile and any feedback you sent us. It also ends the link between your Memoir account and the Apple, Google or email sign-in you used, and removes your memories from the device you deleted from.

## What we may keep for a short time

- Encrypted copies in disaster-recovery backups, until those backups are routinely overwritten. They aren't used for anything else.

- Small deletion and revocation markers, made of technical identifiers and no memory content, so an old or offline device can't bring deleted shared content back.

- A released @handle is reserved for 30 days to reduce impersonation.

- Safety reports, with the links to the reporting and reported accounts removed, for as long as is reasonably needed to investigate abuse, prevent repeat harm, resolve disputes or meet legal duties.

If you shared memories with other people, we can't erase screenshots, exports or other copies they made outside Memoir. The [Privacy Policy](https://flexmemoir.com/privacy/) has the full detail.

## Cancel Pro first

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription, because Google and Apple bill you, not us. Cancel it first if you don't want it to renew.

- Android: open the Google Play Store app, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions, choose Memoir and tap Cancel subscription.

- iPhone and iPad: open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Memoir.

## Delete some of your data instead

- To remove one memory, open it and delete it. It goes from your devices and from our servers.

- To remove every memory but keep your account, use Settings → Backup & Sync → Delete All Memories.

## Can't open the app?

Write to hi@flexcodelabs.com from the email address on your account, or tell us which Apple or Google account you signed in with. We'll check that it's you and then delete the account and its data.
